The international friendly between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will now be held on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, after the Confederation of African Football rejected a proposed shift to Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Super Falcons, who had earlier announced the rescheduling of the tie via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, confirmed the reversal on Sunday.
“Our friendly against Cameroon will now be held on Tuesday, June 3 at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, following a late request from FECAFOOT,” the statement said.
The fixture was originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, but was briefly brought forward to Monday, June 2, following the cancellation of the first leg, initially billed for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
That encounter was scrapped due to the late arrival of the Cameroonian delegation, who only reached Ikenne late Friday night, too late for the required pre-match protocols and recovery.
In a bid to adjust for the change in plans, the Super Falcons announced a new date of June 2 for the remaining match, but CAF declined to approve the amendment, insisting that the original fixture date of Tuesday, June 3 must stand.
Meanwhile, the Cameroonian contingent have since arrived in Ijebu Ode, where they are currently holding training sessions ahead of the clash in nearby Abeokuta.
The match will be the Super Falcons’ first appearance since their narrow 1–0 loss to France in a friendly last November, and serves as a key part of their build-up to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Although Cameroon failed to qualify for the upcoming WAFCON, they remain a familiar foe. Nigeria boast a strong head-to-head record, with the Lionesses failing to score in their last six meetings and last defeating the Falcons in 2012.
